Study Circle Action Items

Last spring, over 140 residents of the Whitehall community met in study circles to discuss Whitehall’s past, present, and mostly, future. The ideas listed below are the common themes that emerged from about 3,000 hours of conversation. 

In the next few weeks, contact names will be added so that if you are inspired by an idea and want to get involved, you will have a person to contact who has more information.

Community Image, Appearance and Publicity:

  • move chamber office
  • develop community vision
  • expand chamber

Programs for school age children

  • licensed, quality, affordable daycare
  • youth recreation
  • tutoring program
  • after-school program
  • at risk youth assessment team
  • mentoring program

Candlestick Ranch as a Recreation Area (contact harrington@montana.edu)

  • This item was discussed at a community forum with the Barrick Management, and they were open to the idea of leaving the Ranch as is. Tom Harrington and CTAC are continuing this conversation.

Community Safety/Tackle Drug Problem

  •  crime watch

Walking Trail

  • Piedmont Area?

New City Park

  • not on highway (does Silver Tower count? if so, we are on it!)

  • matching needs and assets in a community in an informal manner in a centralized location.

 These ideas have been bubbling on the back burner since the spring of 2006, but they are still there, and there are people in the community who are interested in making these “action items” a reality, not just a point of discussion.
